"Come what may, and love it!......Yet in spite of discouragement and adversity, those who are happiest seem to have a way of learning from difficult times, becoming stronger, wiser, and happier as a result." ~ Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin

Swine Flu: To vaccinate or not to vaccinate and are you prepared?...Seriously

While at the doctor yesterday for Noah, Dr. Reynold's told me that they were out of the regular flu vaccine but should be getting the swine flu vaccine in any time. I asked him if he recommended the vaccine for swine flu. He said he did. I asked if he is going to give it to his kids. He said they already have it. He said that it is more deadly than the regular flu and attacking more of the younger population than the regular flu. He said the flu shot that they ordered for the kids has no mercury. I have been debating and have decided I think our entire family should get it. At Dr. Reynold's office they said that they were reserving all the doses for children, so I don't know if Heath and I will be able to get a shot anyway. But Heath is at school a lot and Noah is starting pre-school. They will both be around a lot of people.  Asher cannot afford to get the flu. It would be more devastating to him then to other 9 month old babies because of his low weight. Plus, I have not heard of anyone dieing from the vaccination but I have heard of people dieing from the swine flu. Go HERE for more info. I understand that you can find tons of info on the internet to support both sides but this is a site that I follow.

Also, ARE YOU PREPARED?  Lots of people have been talking about an epidemic or a pandemic (I'm not sure what the difference is and I don't want to take the time to look it up right now) anyway, if this happens, it's possible that we will be quarantined to our homes from anywhere between 3 months to a year (that's the word on the street). Just make sure you have enough food, soap, toothpaste, etc. for your family. Prophets have been telling us to do this for 75 years or more. If you haven't done it by now, I hope it's not too late. Not to scare you but listen to the prophet, would ya? Or if scaring you gets you moving, I hope this scares you :) Good luck, happy preparing:) Oh, also see HERE (but if your already feeling bad, don't see there).

Just a note to my non-Mormon friends: I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (to learn more go HERE). The church is organized like the church was organized in the time of Christ. We have a prophet and apostles who lead our church. The prophet is called of God and receives revelation for our church as a whole. Prophets for years have encouraged us to get a year supply of food, clothing and fuel where possible. This is to help us be self sufficient in times of depressions, job loss, or other poor circumstances. Also wanted to make it known that I do not have a years supply and am also working on it like you. If you have any ideas you want to share I welcome them.

Not to vaccinate...I've weighed the risks and benefits. It's just a normal flu..better to get the virus and build immunities than to vaccinate which doesn't build immunity. Plus vaccination, even without Mercury has carcinagens and adjuvents that we would never think to put in our bodies if were told all ingredients. Sorry...I've been really researching this stuff!
How are you by the way?

Gosh, who really knows what to do??? I keep going back and forth. I'm a fence sitter. I admit it. When I think I've got it figured out, I don't.

Not to vaccinate! for the same reasons listed above.

Savannah's pediatrician is having a clinic tonight and Saturday. They have already vaccinated 700 kids, I'm 99% sure that I'm getting her vaccinated. Talking to one of the nurses, she said after these 2 clinics they will be calling the people who haven't gotten it and encouraging them to get vaccinated.

Also-I know that if I don't vaccinate her I will worry when she is around other kids. "what if she gets sick from these kids?" I don't want to be stuck in the house all winter. Might sound selfish but true.

I've done my fair share of research. I just want to make it known that lots of things have carcinogens. For instance baby soap like Johnson and Johnson. You've probably been rubbing that all over your kid. Go ahead check it out. I'm not saying it's ok. I'm just saying there's a lot. I guess you have to weigh the benefits. I don't know. Anyway, I guess we have to be prayerful about it. There are convincing arguments either way.

also, I don't believe it to be a "normal" flu. Good luck with whatever you decide. That's all I have to say about that.

Well we are all just getting over the swine flu. I had it, not very bad though ( I have amazing antibodies... ha ha) and my 3 kids had it also. They had fevers for 5 days straight but not constantly. IB profin or tylenol would usually help but the fevers would just come back. Then the runny nose came, then the cough. It lasted a total of 9 days for my two kids and my one little guy has super sensitive lungs so he is still coughing a lot. But that is normal for him when he gets sick. My baby has a little cough but mostly just tons of snot and mucus that she gags on. I am still BF her so hopefully that has helped. She or I have not had any fevers though so it just differs person to person. It is very long lasting though. My husband almost done with med school and we totally support vaccinations. We just got the flu before I had time to get them in. We did survive it though (being sick is never a picnic though- especially when you and all 3 of your children are sick)but I would get the vaccine if I were you. Especially for Asher (if he has done well with his other vaccines)!!! Good luck and "come what may."

I have noticed a significant difference in the populations effected by the swine flu. Working in ICU I am used to dealing with the flu every year and this year scared me when we have already had a lot of young and healthy people getting so ill they end up on a ventilator in the ICU. It is true that the regular flu kills people every year, however it usually is only fatal in the elderly or immunocompromised. Last week alone 6 children died from the swine flu. The swine flu vaccine is actually more effective than the regular seasonal flu vaccine as well. It does take about 2 1/2 weeks for the flumist to take effect though. Best to get it, and get it as soon as you can.
