"Come what may, and love it!......Yet in spite of discouragement and adversity, those who are happiest seem to have a way of learning from difficult times, becoming stronger, wiser, and happier as a result." ~ Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin

The splint.

The cast is off. The splint is on. He has to wear the splint for 2 weeks.
After the two weeks he'll only have to wear it at night.
All the doctor wants us to do for two weeks is have him reaching above his head to retrain the lat muscle.
Then we can start other range of motion exercises.
At a month we can start strengthening.
The doctor suggested we go to a pediatric occupational therapist but that would mean
I would have to go to an out patient clinic.
We only have one car so that probably won't work out.
I think I'll just stick with the one we have that comes to our house.
He knows her and I'm sure will do better for her anyway.

I tried to do a few exercises with him today.
He seems really nervous with his splint off.
Also, he seems to be in a lot of pain when his arm is moved in certain directions.
When I take the splint off  he says "on, on".
His arm is skinny but I think it's going to turn out great.
It might be a long road.
When they started up the machine to take the cast off Noah got out his Star Wars hands (both hands extended forward, fingers curled and a sound effect like lightening was coming out of his palms) and tried to take the guy over while saying "You don't touch Asher.". After he discovered it wasn't working he hid behind the stroller and tried to crawl in the bottom basket.

It's true that Noah and Asher went to a birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese yesterday. Also true that when you go they stamp your arm and your kids' arms with a number that can only be seen with a black light. They check everyone that leaves and if your #'s don't match you can't leave. Great idea! And true that Noah was scared of Chuck E. and his friends on stage and ate his pizza and cake under the table. They had a great time.

Looks like Asher is able to move his arm in several directions with that splint. Bless his heart! What a great big brother he has in Noah!! And...what great parents! We love you all!!
